How to Install Custom Blinds & Shades
Installing your custom window coverings is fast, easy, and requires just a few basic tools. This guide covers the general process for all our inside and outside mount products. For product-specific details, please refer to the manual included with your order.
Step-by-Step DIY Blind Installation Process
Whether you have an inside or outside mount, the general process is the same. Follow these steps to secure your brackets, mount the headrail, and finish the installation.
Step 1: Mark & Position the Brackets
- Read the Manual: Identify the correct brackets included with your specific blind or shade.
- Position Brackets: Hold the brackets in place inside the window casing (Inside Mount) or on the wall/trim (Outside Mount).
- Use a Level: Use a pencil to mark the exact drilling locations for your screws, ensuring both brackets are perfectly level with each other. A level fit is essential!
Step 2: Drill Pilot Holes and Secure Brackets
- Drill Pilot Holes: Use a drill bit slightly smaller than your screws to drill small pilot holes at your marked locations. This prevents wood splitting.
- Secure Brackets: Fasten the brackets securely using your screws and the power drill. Ensure they are tightened firmly against the mounting surface.
Step 3: Mount the Headrail
- Snap-In or Clip-In: Gently lift the headrail of your blind or shade and fit it into the mounted brackets. For many products (like cellular or roller shades), the headrail will simply snap or clip into the brackets.
- Listen for the Click: Ensure the headrail is locked securely in place. Give it a gentle tug to verify it's secure.
Step 4: Final Adjustments & Valance
- Check Operation: Test the blind or shade. If it's cordless or motorized, test the lifting mechanism. If it's a slatted blind, test the tilt function.
- Install Valance: Attach the decorative valance (if applicable) to the front of the headrail using the clips provided.
- Tidy Up: Wipe the window area clean and enjoy your newly installed custom blinds!
