What You'll Need

Quick Measuring Tips for Accuracy

  • Measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Be precise.
  • Measure every window. Even if they look the same.
  • Always record Width (W) first, then Height (H). (W x H)

Step 1: Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount Blinds

Before you measure, decide where the blind will be installed. This choice affects where you take your measurements.

Mount StyleWhy Choose It?Key Feature
Inside MountGives a clean, minimalist, finished look. (Most popular choice).Blind hangs inside the window frame.
Outside MountProvides superior light blockage, maximum privacy, and is best for crooked or shallow windows.Blind hangs on the wall or trim outside the frame.

Step 2: How to Measure for Inside Mount Blinds

Goal: Provide us with the exact dimensions of the window opening. We handle the rest!

Measuring the Width (W)

  1. Measure the width inside the window frame at three points: Top, Middle, and Bottom.
  2. Use the SHORTEST measurement as your final Width (W). (This prevents the blind from sticking in the narrowest part of the casing.)

Measuring the Height (H)

  1. Measure the height inside the window frame at three points: Left, Middle, and Right.
  2. Use the LONGEST measurement as your final Height (H). (This ensures the blind is long enough to cover the entire opening.)

Check Window Depth (D)

  1. Measure the distance from the outermost point of the window trim (or wall) to the glass.
  2. Compare this to the Minimum Installation Depth listed on your chosen product page. If it's too shallow, use an Outside Mount.

Step 3: How to Measure for Outside Mount Blinds

Goal: Provide us with the exact finished size you want the product to be. We will not take any deductions.

Measuring the Width (W)

  1. Measure the width of the area you want the blind to cover.
  2. Recommendation: For maximum privacy, add at least 3 inches total (1.5" on each side) to the window opening measurement. Record this total as your final Width (W).

Measuring the Height (H)

  1. Measure the height from where you want the headrail to sit (at least 2 inches above the trim) down to where the blind will end.
  2. Record this total measurement as your final Height (H).
